Farris Allen Duncan, 73, died on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Wayne UNC Health Care.

Farris was born on October 22, 1944 in Person County, North Carolina to Alonzo and Gracie Duncan. Farris attended North Carolina State University and the UNC School of Law, earning a JD degree from the latter in 1970.

Following graduation, Farris served as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) in the United States Air Force and in the Air Force Reserve retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in October 2004.

In August 1976, Farris began working at the Wayne County District Attorney's Office before going into private practice in 1980. Farris was deeply involved in the community and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, the Sunrise Kiwanis Club, as well as causes devoted to the development of the greater Goldsboro area.

Farris was an avid runner and a dedicated family man. He was a loyal father that was always there in a time of need, regardless of the distress or distance. Most of all, he was the husband and best friend of Joyce Bowling Duncan, his wife of more than 52 years.

Farris is survived by his wife, Joyce, and his two children: Monica D. Rollins and her husband Jeffrey Rollins of Gainesville, Florida; A. Scott Duncan and his wife Anne-Laure Duncan of Lyon, France; five grandchildren: Andrew Rollins, Michaela Rollins, and Hannah Rollins, of Gainesville, Florida; Theo Duncan and Ella Duncan, of Lyon, France. He was preceded in death by his sister Shelby Bass and his brother Colon Duncan. He is survived by his sisters Gracene Clayton and Anne Shaw, both of Roxboro, North Carolina, and his sister-in-law Jennifer Bowling of Durham, North Carolina.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Goldsboro and will be officiated by Rev. Scott Thrailkill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, Stained Glass Restoration Fund, PO Box 1528, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
