Douglas Edward MacKenzie passed away Feb. 25th, 2018 in his home at the age of 59. He was born January 9, 1959 in Fort Benton Montana; the son of Dwight (Sam) MacKenzie and Dorothy MacKenzie. He is survived by his mother Dorothy, brother Sheldon, two nephews Scott Adam MacKenzie and Kyle Anthony MacKenzie (who is a student here in Santa Barbara). Douglas was grateful he had Kyle here to assist with his care after his stroke in 2016. He was predeceased by his father Sam MacKenzie. Doug moved to Santa Barbara in 1960, attended Harding School, La Cumbre Jr. High, and La Colina Jr. High. After, he moved on to San Marcos High School where he exhibited extraordinary talent playing football. After graduating from San Marcus, he received a football scholarship to USC where he played for five years. One year, his team was titled national champions. Upon graduation he worked in construction where his superb work ethic was put to good use. Before his stroke in 2016, he would often work 7 days a week and still have time to pick up his nephew Kyle from school. Doug's interests included sports of all kinds, as well as reading. His ability to memorize everything he read/heard often impressed those around him. His brother Sheldon often referred to him as a walking encyclopedia. His boisterous laugh was widely known and adored by all. Thanks to Dr. Hope for his excellent care. A memorial is planned at a later date.
