George A. Rempe III passed away on December 31, 2017 at the age of 73 in his home in Santa Barbara, California. George and his wife Cathy Parry Rempe resided in Santa Barbara since George returned from Vietnam in the fall of 1971.

George was born in DeKalb, Illinois on June 14, 1944. He lived in Illinois with his parents George A. Rempe Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Rempe, sister Judy and brother Steve. When George was in sixth grade the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where George remained through high school. George attended Brophy College Preparatory School for four years and was a member of the football, basketball, baseball and track teams serving as quarterback and captain of the football team his senior year. George then attended the University of Arizona and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity for four years serving as the president his senior year in addition to being a member of ROTC. Immediately after receiving his undergraduate degree in History, George attended law school at the University of Arizona.

After graduating from law school, George married Catherine Ellen Parry of Artesia, New Mexico whom he met while they were attending the University of Arizona. George passed the California and Arizona bar exams and worked as a public defender in Phoenix before being commissioned as an officer assigned to the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Army. George, Cathy and their young son, Michael Parry Rempe, moved to Virginia while George underwent training at Fort Belvoir in advance of leaving to serve his country during the Vietnam War.

George returned home from service in October 1971 to his two children, Michael and Stephanie Ann Rempe. After attending a friend's wedding in Santa Barbara, George and Cathy fell in love with the town and decided to raise their children there. Upon arriving in Santa Barbara, George began his 31 year law practice with Hollister and Brace Law firm.

In 1985 George began volunteering for the Santa Barbara High School baseball program. For 30 years he impacted countless young lives because he invested in more than just baseball. Coaching pulled together all George's passions in life and as a leader of young people he became a mentor to many. Upon retirement as the hitting coach in 2015, the George A Rempe Batting Cage was named in his honor.

George is survived by his wife Cathy, son Michael, daughter Stephanie Remien, sister Judy VanDyke, brother Steve and grandchildren Riley and Ryan Remien.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 3:30 pm at the Santa Barbara High School auditorium.
