GOLETA, CA.-Samuel Blake Shapiro, 16, passed away, surrounded by his family and friends, on Nov 2, 2013 at Cottage Hospital.

Sam was born on Nov. 14, 1996 in Santa Barbara, the son of Cindy Blake and Andy Shapiro.

He was a junior at Dos Pueblos High School and was also attending Santa Barbara City College. His interests included computer programming, Animae, Japanese, online editing of Star Trek: Excelsior audio programs, and marine life. Sam spent many hours volunteering at the Ty Warner Sea Center. Sam also loved spending his summers in Vermont.

He will be remembered as an intelligent and inquisitive young man with a bright smile, who cared deeply about his family and friends.

He is survived by his parents; his sister, Emma, grandparents John and Joyce Blake and Sally Shapiro; his beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins: his dog, Wally, and his cat, Angel.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Mel Shapiro.
