Richard Ives Mansfield, 86, of Danbury, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Bethel Health Care, surrounded by his family. Richard was born on July 14, 1927 in Danbury, the son of Dorothy (Ives) Mansfield and Myron Mansfield, and was a lifelong resident of Danbury. He graduated from Danbury High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946. He graduated from Danbury State Teachers College (Western Connecticut State University) in 1950, and later received a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Connecticut. Richard taught elementary school in Wilton, CT and retired in 1985 after 35 years. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed working at the Danbury Public Library for several years after retiring. His other interests included gardening, attending theater, and traveling to New York City. He was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic movie buff, and appeared as an extra in several films. Richard was happiest spending time with his family. His wit and genial disposition will be missed.

Richard is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Cynthia (Quimby) Mansfield, and daughters Jennifer Louise Mansfield of West Hartford, CT and Susan (Mansfield) Laurino and her husband James of Burlington, CT. He is also survived by grandchildren James Richard Laurino and Julia Elizabeth Laurino, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Janet (Mansfield) McDonough and brothers Myron Hawley Mansfield and Ezra Taylor Mansfield.

Family will receive friends at Green Funeral Home in Danbury on August, 26th from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital, the Danbury Public Library, or a .
