John Rockwell Obituary

John Rockwell
John Cadwick Rockwell, husband of Alan Woolsey Rockwell passed away on July 25, 2018. He was the son of the late Marjorie Doyle Rockwell and Richard C. Rockwell of Loudenville, NY.
Mr. Rockwell was born in Boston, MA in 1938 and was educated at Deerfield Academy and Yale University. He served in the US Navy as a lieutenant. After his graduation he worked for the Yonkers Herald Statesman as the Sports Editor where he was honored for his work. He also worked at the Tarrytown (NY) Daily News as City Editor before retiring at an early age.
Mr. Rockwell was interested in history, specifically sports history, reading extensively and doing crossword puzzles. He spent years actively taking care of his property in Ridgefield and supporting many local and national organizations. He loved nature, birds and animals. He followed sports of all kinds and kept track of the standings every day. In his early years, Mr. Rockwell was a scratch golfer.
His greatest pleasures were travelling with his wife to all of the islands of the Caribbean, Captiva Island in Florida and Chatham, MA. In 15 of his later years, Mr. Rockwell wintered in his favorite place of all, La Quinta, CA.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Alan; a stepson William Woolsey Taliaferro and a brother, Richard D. Rockwell as well as a son and a daughter from a previous marriage.
At his request, there are no services.
