Shirley Reardon Obituary
Shirley Reardon
Shirley Mary Ellen Morton Reardon, age 87, of Woodbury, CT passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018. She was born to the late William and Ethel Morton of Norwalk, CT in 1931.
Shirley was raised on Maxwell Road and attended Norwalk public schools. Shirley's family spent their summers on Sheffield Island in Norwalk, along with her many relatives in the Morton, Stabell, Hendrick and Olsen families. She met John Reardon, the love of her life, on "the Island" when they were children and their romance blossomed when they renewed their friendship in the 1950's. They were married in Norwalk in 1953. The couple spent the early years of their marriage in Norwalk before moving to Redding, CT. In Redding, Shirley was an active member of the Christ's Church Episcopal parish and a member of the Athletic Booster Club of Joel Barlow High School. Shirley's life was filled with family and friends and was centered on her home, children and grandchildren. She was proud of her home, kept an immaculately clean and tidy house, and was fiercely protective of her children.
Taking after her father, Willy "Pop" Morton, Shirley was an avid Yankees fan and could be found many afternoons watching the ball game on TV. Shirley was especially fond of big family gatherings. She loved Sheffield Island and spent all of her childhood and many of her adult summers in the "Little House" there, providing her family with many years of wonderful memories. Shirley enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports. She had a green thumb, and was especially fond of African Violets.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, John Henry. She is survived by her five children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her children and their families include: daughter Patricia and her partner, Mark Krisko, of Woodbury, CT; Kevin & Sue Reardon of East Granby, CT and their children Victoria and Denis; Keith & Judy Reardon of South Yarmouth, MA, their son Justin and his wife Alena and her two great grandchildren, Nadia and Sasha; Bruce and Nancy Reardon of Westbrook, CT and their two children Meghan and Shane; and Craig and Stacey Reardon of New Milford, CT and their two children Jack and Grace.
In accordance to Shirley's wishes, the services will be private. The Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home 5 East Wall Street in Historic Norwalk has been entrusted with arrangements. Please visit www.norwalkfh.com to leave an online condolence and for more information. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woodbury Ambulance Association, P.O.
