Michael Duffy Obituary
Michael Vincent Duffy
Oct 23, 1952 - May 20, 2018
Michael Vincent Duffy, 65, an intrepid photographer for The Danbury News-Times for 31 years, has died following a valiant battle with cancer.
Michael moved to Danbury after a successful career in NYC and documented life in the Hat City and surrounding communities through his creative photography. From school events to politicians and businesses he could be seen everywhere and easily recognizable with his hurried demeanor and camera at the ready. He enjoyed photographing school sports and being a part of the action.
Michael opened his own photography studio, The BIG Picture, in an old hat factory in the city for his portrait photography of products, business officials and many physicians at Danbury Hospital. Michael also photographed many weddings.
An exercise enthusiast, Michael would often be seen running in Rogers Park in Danbury or along the streets in Brookfield always ending his exercise regimen in the sauna at the YMCA.
He participated in many biathlons and triathlons. He once swam the 11-mile length of Candlewood Lake and later made swimming or canoeing in Lake Kenosia a regular pastime.
Michael graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. He earned a master's degree in philosophy from The New School in NYC in 1976.
Michael was married twice. Both marriages ended in divorce. He is survived by two nieces, two nephews and their respective families.
Michael is predeceased by his parents Michael Martin and Felicia Duffy and his sister Geraldine McNally. Michael will be laid to rest with his parents at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. The family welcomes friends and the community to stop by Molly Darcy's in Danbury to celebrate his life Thursday evening (May 31) starting at 5 p.m.
