CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Earl Roger Pumphrey passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Mr. Pumphrey was born on July 18, 1941 in Baltimore, Md. He was the son of the late Howell Lester Pumphrey and Hebedina Ansmink Pumphrey.
In 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for 30 years. On Oct. 17, 1964, he married Sylvia Dianne Smith. The two started their family and Sylvia stayed at home to raise the children. In 1974, they moved to North Carolina for six years and then moved back to the Eastern Shore. In 1995, he started working for Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) for 18 years when he finally retired in 2015. Mr. Pumphrey enjoyed Fox News, bowling, spending time with his family and trips to Ocean City. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chestertown and the VFW.
He is survived by one daughter, Stacie Lynn Tingen and fiancé Mark Franklin Jackson of Chestertown, Md.; and two grandchildren, Christopher Lance Tingenand fiancé Cheyeanne Mercedes Parks and Ethan Charles Tingen, both of Chestertown, Md. He was predeceased by his son, David Lance Pumphrey in 2017; and his wife, Sylvia Dianne Pumphrey in 2013.
Services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 12 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 130 Speer Rd., Chestertown, Md. where a visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will be held in Maryland Veteran's Cemetery in Hurlock, Md., following the service. There will be a reception held at the funeral home, after the interment
