DOVER - Robert H. Collison passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at Christiana Hospital.
Bob grew up, one of seven children in Dover to the late William R. Collison and Elsie Mae Davis Collison. He graduated from Dover High School in 1958 and married Margaret Anne Behen in 1961. In 1963 Bob joined the Dover Police Department and continued a career of investigation for the next 45 years. After 20 years and retiring as a Detective Sergeant from the Delaware State Police in 1988 he continued to serve as an investigator for the Department of Justice, the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission and the Delaware Harness Racing Commission until 2009. After his retirement he and Margaret Anne enjoyed their home and friends in The Villages, Florida.
He was a charter member of the FOP Lodge #3 and the DSP Lodge of the FOP. Bob was also a life member of the Delaware State Police Retired Association and life member and past President of the Robbins Hose Company. In 1966 he was Delaware Volunteer Fireman of the Year. He was Master Mason, Harmony Lodge 13 in Smyrna and a member of the Villages Mustang Club. Bob had attended Asbury Methodist Church in Smyrna and the New Conventant Methodist Church in the Villages, Fla.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Anne and sister, Ellen Pappas.
He is survived by daughters, Denise L. Ryan of Smyrna, and Donna L. Marshall (John) of Middletown; brothers, William D. Collison of Smyrna, Roy Collison of Marydel and Gordon Collison of Hartly; sisters, Rose Berg of Virginia Beach, Va., Nancy Harrison of Ocean View, Md.; grandchildren, Craig R. Ryan (Tricia) of Smyrna, Eric M. Ryan (Jessie) of Clayton, Katrina A. Mercer (Matthew) of Salisbury Md., Kristina L. Marshall of Salisbury Md.; great-grandchildren, Jaylen Mae Ryan, Margaret Jo Mercer, Elizabeth Kate Mercer and Ridge William Ryan.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Friday at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Delaware State Police Museum, 1425 N. Dupont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.
