William DuBovik Obituary

DuBOVIK, THE VERY REV. WILLIAM, JR. The Very Reverend William Jr., a Priest of the Holy Orthodox Church, Pastor/Rector of All Saints Orthodox Church, Hartford, CT, since 1995, and a former journalist passed away on June 6, 2013. He was 64 years old. He was the devoted husband of the late Suzanne Jarven DuBovik (1950-1986) and a wonderful, loving, caring and dedicated father of Christopher DuBovik and Nadia DuBovik-Lugo; and loving grandfather of Nazarius William Lugo and Alexander Francis Lugo. He was predeceased by several relatives including parents, Mary and William, and sisters, Janice and Estelle, and is survived by several cousins. Fr. William was born in New Haven, CT and lived in several communities including New Haven, Orange, Norwich, Waterford and Hartford in Connecticut; and South Canaan and Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania. Prior to being ordained a Priest in 1989, he was a deacon having been ordained to the Diaconate in 1988. He served as Pastor of St. Nicholas Church in Norwich and as an assistant in Three Saints Church, Ansonia, and as a supply Priest for the New England Diocese and Connecticut Deanery. He was a former editor of the diocesan newspaper, ONE, for which he continued to write; and was previously an associate editor and contributing writer to the Orthodox Christian Journal and to other Church publications. He was a former treasurer of the Connecticut Deanery and a representative to the Diocesan Council. He received the awards of Nabedrennik in 1995 and Skufia in 1997, and Gold Cross in 2004 honors bestowed by the Holy Synod of Bishops. Fr. William was a published poet and free-lance writer both before and during his time as a priest. Prior to ordination, Fr. William was active in politics, having served on Republican Town Committees in New Haven and Orange. He was a ward chairman in New Haven; a candidate for State Representative and a former Justice of the Peace. He worked on research and publicity in several campaigns, and was a strong public advocate for the sanctity of life. Fr. William's career in journalism included several years as a reporter and then assistant city editor for the former Evening Sentinel, which served the Lower Naugatuck Valley; and he served for seven years as assistant Sunday editor for the Connecticut Post Publishing Company in Bridgeport; and also as managing editor at The Resident, Stonington, CT. He is a graduate of St. Tikhon's Theological Seminary in South Canaan, PA and a 1970 alumnus of Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, CT. Fr. William's family will receive friends on Monday, June 10, from 4-7 at All Saints Orthodox Church, 205 Scarborough St., Hartford. A Panikhida will be held at 7 p.m. following the visitation. A Funeral Service will be held at the Church on Tuesday, June 11, 10 a.m., followed by a reception and then burial at Three Saints Cemetery in Seymour, CT. Memory Eternal! Memory Eternal. Father William was a good man, an excellent priest and a kind friend. Patti and I had such respect for him and for his boundless faith. He truly was an icon of Christ. He stood up for his values and was to us everything an Orthodox priest should be. We will miss him very much. The world has lost a good man and heaven has gained a saint. May his Memory be Eternal.
