William Sugrue Obituary

SUGRUE, WILLIAM P. William Philip Sugrue, 93, of Orlando, FL, formerly of New Haven, died March 13, 2013. He was the beloved husband of the late Madeline Guida Sugrue. He is survived by his daughters, Karen (Lubiniecki) Joos of Orlando, FL, Lynne Martens of New Haven, and Nancy Barone (George) of Plantsville; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one, great great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his brothers Herbert and Charles Shugrue; sisters, Helen Corenki and Anne Blanke. Born in New Haven on January 5, 1920 to the late Cornelius and Josephine Ryan Sugrue, he graduated from Hillhouse High School and attended Collegiate Preparatory School. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Army as a Lieutenant. Upon returning from the war, he attended New Haven College. He worked for Soundscriber Corporation and later for the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring from the Postal Service, he worked at the Yale University Law Library. William was a member of the American Legion Post 175. His Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Church, 397 Ferry Street, New Haven, followed by a burial with Military Honors in All Saints Cemetery.
