Sadly, I am just coming across the news of Mrs. Huntley's passing while feeling nostalgic and looking up old teachers. I remember her fondly from my years at Uncas Elementary and in her 5th grade class in the early 90's.
To this day, I can't help but giggle when I come across a "finkeldey" and can remember the first time it clicked. IYKYK.
May her light shine on in all of us she touches with her love and laughter.

Due to Covid and my age of 89, I had not been meeting anyone outside of family. I just learned that Lois is gone and I will miss our annual meetings in Middletown for lunch. I got to know Lois at a workshop we had in New Hampshire years ago about learning styles and we hit it off. I live in New Hartford and Lois was on the opposite end of the State so we met annually for lunch in Middletown. I was sent pictures of the beautiful dogs and descriptions of their competition wins. I will truly miss her...she was a great person..

I woke up this morning with memories of Ms. Huntley as my 5th grade teacher. I am sad to hear of her passing but happy to be able to share that not one of her students can say they did not leave Uncas with lasting memories of Ms. Huntley. She was a FORCE. Even today I can trace back the discipline and effort I invest in my life directly back to 5th grade with Ms. Huntley, something like 15 years ago. Along with unwavering kindness, Ms. Huntley prepared us for a world that would not tolerate excuses and demanded respect for all people.
I came in to Uncas as a new student on about the 2nd day of school. I nervously walked up to her desk and told her I was new. She looked me directly in the eyes, seriousness all over her face, and extended her hand to me to shake mine. I was a fifth grader! This lady meant business. I am realizing now that must have been Ms. Huntley's last class before retirement. I feel very lucky to have soaked up all the expertise and wisdom she had to share, having been in her class toward the end of her career. May we continue to remember and celebrate the life of such a generous woman who lived life with much passion and meaning.

Lois was a sweet, lovely kind woman who smiled at all and was lovely to all. I will miss seeing her at the museum. I am so very sorry for the loss of your mother and father at such a young age.

Lois was a member of our Christian meditation group that meets in the chapel at Connecticut College on Monday evenings. She was a gentle, beautiful soul with a kind heart and deep faith. Our group met last evening and truly we could feel her spirit with us. May she now enjoy ever lasting life and peace.

I knew Lois thru the dog agility world. She was one of the sweetest / kindest people there are. Always wanted to help and was kind to everyone, even if they were undeserving. My heart goes out to the family. you lost a real winner in life.

Lois Ann Huntley, a gifted teacher and professional mentor to many, has left a legacy of enormous contributions to education, particularly to students with special needs. She was an integral part of the Department of Special Education in the Norwich Public Schools. I, as the Department Director , clearly recognized her skill and creativity in developing programs to benefit the students she so ably served. She developed a reknowned program focusing on educating students with special needs who are also gifted. Together, we shared her program to the Council for Exceptional Children in Washington D.C. She continued to contribute to many facets of educational programming. A woman of integrity, kindness, and generosity, she will be remembered as an aspirational leader in education.Dr. Colette B. We were not blood related but we were dog related to Lois via her youngest dog Link. We met Lois through our mutual participation in the sport of agility. Lois earned many titles with her shelties but it seemed to me she was proudest of the joy they brought as a therapy team. We very much enjoyed the pictures she posted of her reading rovers! While over the last few years we did not see you in agility you will always be remembered fondly for your grace and strength.

Loisann was the friendliest person i meant when i was first introduced into my huntley clan.. we shared many likes including history, dogs, flowers and paris. she was always so upbeat, so positive no matter what..a great example to follow of a genuine nice person, kind to all, and a friend to all who were fortunate enough to be in her circle..loisann and i had both had and survived ovarian cancer and when i was ill she sent me wonderful books to read and encouragement. i will really miss you Loisann, the world will be not quite so bright with you not in it..
