John Mulvey Obituary

Mulvey, Sr., John P.
John Patrick Mulvey Sr., 89, formerly of West Haven and Naples, Florida entered into eternal rest on January 19, 2021 in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where he resided with his son Matthew's family and his eldest child, Mary Fournier. For 58 years, he was the husband of the late Barbara Jennings Mulvey, until her passing in 2016. Loving father of Mary Fournier, Margaret (Brian) Simonette, John Mulvey Jr., Michael (Tracey) Mulvey, Christopher (Lisa) Mulvey and Matthew (Katie Sacksteder) Mulvey. He was the proud grandfather of Alec, Hillary, Andrew, Catherine, Christopher Jr., Elizabeth, Nicholas, Liam and Finn. In addition to his wife Barbara, John was predeceased by his son James, brothers James and Charles and sister Mary. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, John was a son of the late James and Catherine Condon Mulvey and grew up on Willis Street. Stationed in Japan during the Korean War, he served four years in the Air Force. In 1958, he and Barbara in and moved to Storrs, CT so he could finish his electrical engineering degree on the GI bill at his beloved UCONN. Soon after graduation, John began working at Southern New England Telephone Company (SNET) where he worked for over 30 years. In addition, he taught night classes in engineering at the University of New Haven for 12 years. John and Barbara lived in New Haven on Columbus Avenue before moving to Ocean Avenue in West Haven where they raised their family for 38 years. While in CT, they enjoyed steam boating with their good friends, as well as family vacations to Misquamicut, RI, Lake Morey, VT and Long Beach Island, NJ. In 1999, they moved to Naples, Florida where they enjoyed happy hours, card games and the company of other retirees. John, a member of the first graduating class at Notre Dame High School, West Haven was a gentle man with a kind, generous soul who lived his life guided by his Catholic faith. He was a quiet person who listened and observed, but, if you needed advice or someone to talk to, he always made time for you. He was fiercely loyal to Barbara and missed her terribly.. John was grateful for the blessings in his life and held all gatherings of family and friends close to his heart. He never complained and if asked how he was, he'd always answer - Fantastic!

This is a beautifully written obituary, and a really nice picture. I did not know Mr Mulvey, but he is the father of one of my very best school friends, and for that, I am grateful.

This is how I learned of Jim's passing. I left a note on his legacy page. I hope his family and friends will see it.

I'm truly sorry for your loss.
