Deborah Hoffman Obituary

HOFFMAN, DEBORAH Deborah Condron Hoffman, 58, of Winter Springs, FL and West Haven, CT, died January 11, 2013 in Orlando, Florida. She is survived by her husband, Harold John Hoffman. The couple was married for over 35 years. Born in Scranton, PA on November 1, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margie Condron. Debbie was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, and the College of the Holy Cross, earning a BA, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1976, a member of the first class of women at the College of the Holy Cross. Deborah earned an MBA from the University of Connecticut, and was the holder of numerous professional designations, CIA, CISA, CRMA, CBA, and was the Elijah Watts Sells Medal winner with High Distinction on the CPA exam. Deborah (Debbie) Hoffman recently joined the Institute of Internal Auditors as Director, Standards and Guidance, in Altamonte Springs, FL. Debbie served as the liaison with the Global Ethics Committee and was responsible for updating and monitoring the IIA Code of Ethics. Prior to her position at the IIA, Debbie served as Vice President, Audit Services and Chief Compliance Officer for UIL Holdings Corporation, in New Haven, Connecticut. She has also held internal audit leadership positions in the financial services industry. Her civic and community achievements were numerous, having served as an elected member of the Board of Finance for the Town of Orange, Chair of the Ethics Committee for the Town of Orange, and served on the Board of Directors of The Beth El Shelter and Soup Kitchen of Milford. She was a proud member of the Catholic Charity League of Greater New Haven, and the Alumni Mothers of Notre Dame High School. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her children Katherine Amundson (Brian) of West Milford, NJ, twins Daniel, of Syracuse, NY and Sean of West Haven, CT. She is also survived by her stepmother, Betsy Bell Condron of Kingston, PA, a sister, Carol Keisling (Delbert), Clarks Green, PA, brothers David (Patricia) Ellicott City, MD and Mark (Maria) Huntington Beach, CA, stepsisters Sara Van Why (Norman) Bedford, PA, Betsy Carroll (John), Wellington, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Andrew in 1979. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 AM in Saint Mary Church, 70 Gulf Street, Milford, CT 06460. Interment will follow in Saint Mary Cemetery on Buckingham Avenue in Milford. Friends may call Friday, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM directly at Saint Mary Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beth El Homeless Shelter and Soup Kitchen, 90 New Haven Avenue, Milford, CT 06460, Saint Mary Parish,70 Gulf Street, Milford, CT 06460, or a charity of the donor's choice.
