D'Onofrio, Dr. Albert M.
Dr. Albert M. D'Onofrio, formerly of New Haven and Branford, passed away September 10, 2018 in Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his family. He is the husband of Carmella "Honey" Martino D'Onofrio. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Ryder, daughters Kathy Monahan and Sandy McRae, son-in-law Patrick Monahan, and his grandchildren Katie Monahan, Alison McRae, Gregory Monahan, and Claire McRae. Al was born in Hamden, August 21, 1931, son of the late Albert C. and Anna Marra D'Onofrio and was a US Navy veteran. He was a member of the first graduating class of Notre Dame High School where he received the Athlete of the Year Award. Al attended Georgetown University and Georgetown University Dental School, where he was a member of the OKU National Dental Honor Society. Following his graduation, he served at the Chelsea Naval Hospital and was assigned to the Destroyer-Tender USS Arcadia. Following his Naval service, he attended Columbia University School of Orthodontics. He then started his private practice in New Haven where he worked as an Orthodontist until his retirement in 2013 at age 82. He was passionate about his work, particularly in the area of surgical orthodontics. He was so well loved by his patients. When not working or spending time with his family, Al enjoyed skiing in the winter and golfing in the summer at Racebrook Country Club where he was a lifetime member. Later in life he could be found in the early hours bicycling all over Branford. Al was also a member of Scungilli International, a former member of the Quinnipiack Club and served on the Board of Directors of the former Bank of New Haven.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday morning at 10 in St. Bernadette Church 385 Townsend Ave. New Haven. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. A reception will follow at Anthony's Ocean View 450 Lighthouse Rd. New Haven beginning at 12:30 p.m. There will be no calling hours. The Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. is in care of the arrangements.
