CARL PETER VERDERAME

1921 - 2016

VERDERAME, CARL PETER Dedham, MA—Carl Peter Verderame, loving father and grandfather, devoted brother, died February 3, 2016. He was 94. Mr. Verderame was born in New Haven, CT on July 3, 1921 to Mary (Morico) Verderame and Salvatore Verderame. He attended the University of New Haven and resided in New Haven, CT and Glastonbury, CT and he was the eldest of five siblings including the late Pasquale, the late Salvatore (Red), Catherine Volpe, and the late Marie Fronte. Mr. Verderame served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II with the 158th Regimental Combat Team and the 11th Airborne. He was a decorated war veteran and he received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for bravery, among other awards. An accomplished athlete, Mr. Verderame played minor and major league baseball with the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies franchises. He was a highly skilled left handed pitcher and was known as “Lefty” to friends and family. He received the prestigious Gold Ring from the New Haven chapter of the Boys and Girls Club of America and supported children’s sports throughout his life. He worked as an executive for United Technologies Inc. He was married to Elsie DiFabbio of New Haven, CT in 1948 and to Mary Hunt Hoag of East Hartford, CT in 1985. Mr. Verderame leaves three daughters: Robin Ciardiello Wish, Dr. Carla Verderame, and Dr. Lori Verderame, as well as two granddaughters, Lauren Ciardiello Sheridan and Kimberly Ciardiello. In addition to extended members of the family and friends, he will also be missed by Chuck Wilson, Karl Helicher, and Michael Banack. A private service will be held on Cape Cod, MA.
