Carmel V. Finelli Obituary
Finelli, Carmel V.
Carmel V. Finelli (Barbiero), 96, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the Hamden Health Care Center. She was born in New Haven on May 10, 1922 and was the daughter of the late John and Mary Cappella Finelli. Carmel was a private duty nurse's aide for many years, a profession she dedicated her life to and was very much loved by all her patients and their families. She was a member of the Altar society and the Legion of Mary for St. Donato's Parish and was a long-time faithful parishioner of St. Stephen Church. She was an active member of Al-Anon where she served as a State Representative. Carmel enjoyed listening to music (especially Italian), dancing, was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, loved flowers, but most of all was dedicated to her family whom she loved unconditionally. Loving mother of Mary Ann (Barbiero) Thompson and Peter Barbiero (Debbie DeLouise). Loving grandmother of William Thompson (Stacey), Michele Thompson (Dennis Deloughery), Robyn Johnson (Jeff) and Sara Ely (Scott). Loving great-grandmother of Paul DeCola, Lucia and Hannah Thompson, Sophia Deloughery, Ian and Nathan Johnson, Hailee and Gunnar Ely and the late Michael Thompson. Loving sister of Gloria Calandrelli and the late Amalia (Molly) Pascale, Rose Damiata, Antoinette Travaglino, Joseph Finelli, Concetta (Connie) Camera and John Finelli, Jr. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to extend a special "Thank you" to the entire staff at the Hamden Health Care Center.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue on Saturday morning at 10:30. Family and friends may call from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Stephen Church at 11:00.
