FLETCHER, LT. COL. FRED W., USAF (Ret.)
Hawkinsville – Fred Fletcher, 71, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Fred was born on June 8, 1946 in New Haven, Connecticut to the late Florence and Fred W. Fletcher, Sr. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam and received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars among other medals and ribbons during his distinguished military career. After retiring from the military, Fred was a criminal investigator with the U.S. Department of Commerce for twenty years. A lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police, he also enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Fletcher. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 49 years, Carol Niles Fletcher of Hawkinsville; children, Michael Fletcher of Macon and Jennifer Wilson (Steve) of Ocracoke, North Carolina; grandchildren, Gavin Dowdy and Lily and Stevie Wilson; brother, Stephen Fletcher of Hamden, Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews. He will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Fred Fletcher to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belford Rd., Ste. 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
