Ahern, George E.
George E. Ahern of Branford, died Thursday January 11, 2018 at Branford Hills Health Care Center. He was the husband of the late Marie Spillane Ahern. George was born in Branford in 1925, son of the late John and Hazel Ahern. He was a World War II veteran where he served with the 351st Bomb Group of the U. S. Army Air Corps, having completed 35 missions as a Staff Sergeant in England. George was a former member and captain of Indian Neck Fire Company 9, and was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 83 in Branford. George was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church in Branford. George is survived by his three daughters, Kathleen Ahern, Sharon Anelundi and Suzanne Klarman; and his son, retired Branford Fire Department Chief John "Jack" Ahern (Lisa), all of Branford; his sister, Elizabeth "Bette" Ahern of Branford; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Emily Ahern and his sisters, Joan and Patricia Ahern. His family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Branford Hills Health Care Center for the care given to George, and a special thank you to his granddaughter, Kelly Klarman, who was always there to bring a smile to his face.
Funeral from the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, Monday morning at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church at 11:00. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. Friends may call Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. For directions and online memorial see www.wsclancy.com.
