Helen Meehan Obituary
Meehan, Helen
Helen Lucey Meehan, 92, of Branford, CT, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Helen was born in Yonkers, New York on June 20, 1926 to Joseph and Helen Lucey. Helen was a resident of Branford since 2004 and previously resided in Ossining, Katonah, and Carmel, New York. Most recently, Helen lived at The Hearth at Gardenside in Branford for numerous years. Her children, Barbara and Michael, want to send their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Gardenside for all the loving care they gave to their mom.
Helen was an accomplished watercolor artist which began as a hobby at the start of her retirement years after raising three children. Helen also had a wanderlust and loved to travel. She and her husband Gerry would travel in the US and parts of Europe. She was always proud of finding the courage to take a trip to Europe on her own with a tour group. She was an avid golfer which she also took up during retirement. One of her biggest accomplishments was being a cancer survivor after being diagnosed in her 50's. Helen was a caring and loving family member. She also had a great sense of humor and we will remember her wit fondly.
Helen is survived by her son and daughter in law, Michael and Carrie Meehan of Medford, New York, her daughter, Barbara Meehan of Branford and by her brother, Joseph Lucey of Long Beach, California. She is also survived by many loving relatives in New York, Florida, California, Italy, Connecticut and Canada. She is predeceased by her husband Gerry, and her son, Rod.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 21st at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Branford with a reception immediately following at the parish church hall. At noon, the family will depart to the cemetery for a private burial. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Canoe Brook Senior Center, 11 Cherry Hill Road, Branford, CT 06405. Arrangements are in care of Oak Grove Cremation Service.
