Hortense D. Hall Obituary
Hall, Hortense, D.
Hortense "Molly" Hall, of West Haven, entered peaceful rest and rejoicing on December 30, 2017 in her home, surrounded by family. Born in Kingston, Jamaica she was a daughter of George Riley and Rosalin Smythe. Hortense moved from Jamaica to England in 1960, where she was married and raised her family. A master craftsman, she was a gifted dressmaker and sample maker perfecting her craft since she was sixteen years old. Her bespoke creations have graced the stage of the Miss Universe Pageant and countless runways, she was the dressmaker of choice for the personal designer of Bianca Jagger, Mick Jagger's former wife in London, England. After moving to the United States in 1980 with her children, she continued her entrepreneurial ventures with contracts from MotherCare, custom men's dress shirts, choir and pastoral robes, hand-beaded wedding gowns, dance competition costumes and so much more. She retired from FYC International in East Haven. Although she enjoyed sewing and gardening, she was most fond of spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Joy Temple Church in New Haven and served as an Usher and a member of the choir. Hortense is survived by her husband, Roydel A. Hall of Kingston, Jamaica; daughters, Anne-Marie [Brungard] Knight and her husband Charles of West Haven, Norma Brown and her husband Rudy of Stratford, Patricia West of Vernon, her son, Roydel A.
