Colantonio Sr., Joseph N.
Joseph N. Colantonio, Sr., 88, of Hamden passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite "Marge" Gizzi Colantonio. Joseph was born in New Britain on September 7, 1929 and was the son of the late Guido and Theresa Sabia Colantonio. He served his country faithfully in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. Joseph obtained his Bachelor's degree from the former Quinnipiac College. He had worked for the former Armstrong Rubber Company, later for the former Heim Bearing of Fairfield and later was the owner of the Idea Company, Hamden. Joseph was the past President and Coach of the Hamden Father's Baseball & Basketball Associations, was an avid UCONN men's & women's basketball and Boston Red Sox fan, enjoyed traveling and his frequent trips to the casino. Father of Joseph (Margaret) Colantonio, Jr., Steven (Stacy) Colantonio, Gary Colantonio and Mark (Julie) Colantonio. Grandfather of Jennifer (Jack) Kern, Tracey (John) Llewellyn, Brian, Michael, Eric, Andrew & Kelli Colantonio, William and Jeffrey Deegan. Great Grandfather of Colten Kern and Weston Llewellyn. Predeceased by his brother, Donald Colantonio. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Yale New Haven Hospital and the CT Hospice, Branford for their care and compassion.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Thursday morning at 9:15. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Stephen Church, Hamden at 10:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
