Katrine D. Fitzgerald, 70, entered into eternal rest on November 9, 2017 in the Benchmark Split Rock Assisted Living of Shelton.
Born in Ansonia on June 23, 1947, she is the first child of Robert William and Katherine (Welser) Fitzgerald of Derby, who predeceased her. She was raised in Derby and lived in Washington, D.C. for much of her adult life. A graduate of the Assumption School (1961) in Ansonia, CT, Laurelton Hall (1965) in Milford, CT, and Emmanuel College (1969) in Boston, MA. During her varied career she had been a teacher and a school administrator and had worked for a number of non-profit companies in Washington, D.C., including Future Homemakers and Special Olympics. She was also a dedicated caregiver to her parents in their later years. Katrine was a loyal friend, a great aunt and a lover of good music.Katrine is survived by her sister Patricia Ryan, wife of the late Larry Ryan, of Blue Point, Long Island, Diane Baklik and her husband Tom Baklik of Seymour, CT; her brother Robert E. Fitzgerald of Denver, CO, and her brother Mark Fitzgerald and his wife Melissa Fitzgerald of Harrisburg, PA. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Emily and Nora Ryan, Molly and Zachary Baklik, Robert L. and Morgan Fitzgerald and Clare and Timothy Fitzgerald, and Gussie the dog niece. Friends are invited to call at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Bennett Funeral Home, 91 N. Cliff St., Ansonia, CT. The Funeral will leave at 10:45 a.m. to the Church of the Assumption, 23 N. Cliff St., Ansonia, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. St. Peter's Cemetery, 219 New Haven Ave., Derby, CT 06401.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Katrine's name to the Assumption School in care of the Funeral Home.
