Schroeder, M. Richard
Milton Richard "Dick" Schroeder passed away peacefully in Littleton, CO December 2, 2017, in the home of his son Kurt, and was surrounded by his family.
Dick was born September 10, 1935 in New Haven, CT. He is now reunited with his parents Milton and Hazel (Hansen) Schroeder. He leaves his loving wife of 58 years Patricia (Dahlgard) Schroeder; his son Kurt (Naima) and their son Zack; his son Erik with his children Annika and Axel; his brother Bob (Linae); his cousin Donald Hansen, and many nieces and nephews.
Dick graduated from Deerfield Academy and attended St. Lawrence University before joining the United States Marine Corps, where he served with the Presidential and Ceremonial Honor Guard in Washington, D.C. During his service, Dick was a member of the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team and guarded President Dwight D. Eisenhower at Camp David.
Dick's sons Kurt and Erik, and many other youth hockey players, benefited from Dick's coaching skills. Dick was instrumental in educating many players and families regarding opportunities that New England boarding schools had for young student athletes. Dick also coached the Sheehan High School varsity women's softball team to a state championship. Dick was very involved with hockey and football, officiating at the high school, prep school and collegiate levels.
Dick owned and operated M. Richard & Company for over 30 years. Upon his retirement, Dick and his wife Pat traveled throughout the United States and Canada in their motor home, meeting many new friends along the way. Their summers were spent where they met as children at Lanphier's Cove in Branford, CT.
