Nicholas M. Rascati Obituary
Rascati, Nicholas M.
Nicholas Mario Rascati (Nick, Nicky, Dad, Nonno, Uncle Nick), 77, husband, father, grandfather, friend, guidance counselor, cousin, and golfer, passed peacefully with his son by his side in Connecticut Hospice. His courageous battle with cancer ended on November 9, 2017. He was the devoted husband and lifelong partner to Diana Polce Rascati and lovingly admitted that marrying Diana was the best decision he ever made. Father and confidant to his two children, Renee Marie (Christopher) Gash and Salvatore Matthew (Kalyani) Rascati. On October 20, 1940, Nicky was born to Salvatore and Mary Jean Rascati in New Haven. He attended St. Rose of Lima Grammar School and then proudly graduated from Notre Dame High School of West Haven in 1958. Nick attended Our Lady of LaSalette Seminary in Ipswich, NY and Altamont, NY from 1958-1963. He had hoped to be a missionary in Burma, however health issues prevented him from achieving this dream. He then went on to pursue his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology at Southern Connecticut State College, during which time he met his lifelong friends in the Sigma Zeta Chi fraternity. Between 1970 and 1995 he worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Teacher Certification. He later earned his two Master's degrees in Statistics and School Counseling at Southern Connecticut State University, moving on to a twelve-year career as a Guidance Counselor in the New Haven and West Haven Public School systems. In retirement, he took on his third career as a childcare provider to his beloved granddaughters, Cecelia and Chloe. When Nick was not doting on his grandchildren, he was golfing with his best friends. Nick spent his dearest moments with his family - his wife, children, his parents, siblings, cousins, in-laws, and his second family, the Polce's. His love for travel alongside his wife took him many times to visit extended family in Italy. He also loved to visit his Prodigal son in North Carolina, Florida, Virginia, Honduras, and Vermont. Nick especially enjoyed family vacations while spoiling his granddaughters with trips to Water's Edge Resort, Cape Cod, and Disney. Besides being survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Diana, his children, and grandchildren, he also leaves behind his sister, Rosemary (Armand) Russo, his uncle, James (Joann) Fantarella, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Vincent A. Rascati.
