Philomena M. (Fanny) Driend, age 98, of Shelton, entered into rest on Monday November 6, 2017 in the Lord Chamberlain Health and Rehabilitation Center with her loving family by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late Edward P. Driend. Mrs. Driend was born in Derby, on February 8, 1919, daughter of the late Fortunato and Maria (Macciocca) Salce. She was a lifelong Valley Resident. She was a member of the first graduating class of St. Joseph Grammar School and was a retired payroll clerk at Kerite. Mrs. Driend was an avid UCONN Women's Basketball fan, a diehard Red Sox fan and was a member of the Shelton High School Volleyball State Championship Team. She was a volunteer at CT Hospice for over fifteen years. She was loved by all who met her, had an incredible sense of humor, enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family and loved spoiling her Yorkies, Leah, Reggie, Teddy, and Jasper. She lived a life of faith and devotion and was prepared for her next journey. She was the beloved mother of Maria Driend, with whom she resided, Edward P. Driend, Jr. and his wife Rosemary. She was the loving sister of Anthony Salce, Frank Salce and Josephine Kirkpatrick. She was the cherished grandmother of Mark Driend and Amy Sabato, great-grandmother of Anthony Bilodeau, Thomas Sabato, Samantha Driend and Katheryn Driend. Mrs. Driend also leaves her beloved caretaker Margaret Karbowski. She also had several nieces and nephews. Friends may greet her family on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. At 12:30 p.m. her funeral procession will leave the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, Shelton. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby.
