Sylvie Amicy Fontaine Obituary
Fontaine, Sylvie Amicy
Born on January 2, 1957 in Avignon, France into the family of Edmond Georges Fontaine and Raymonde Rebecca Fontaine (nee Zafrani of Marrakech, Morocco). She leaves a sister, Dominique Simone Fontaine, and nephew Ian Cameron Fenger.
The Fontaine family emigrated from France and eventually settling down in Orange, CT. Here Sylvie raised and loved many animals. Her passions for arts and crafts, love of animals and horseback riding nurtured there. As a child, she had won many medals and ribbons in horseback riding competitions.
Sylvie attended Amity Regional High School and graduated in 1975. After graduating, she worked waitressing at Poor Lads and Sherman's Tavern on the Green. She loved the New Haven restaurants, nightlife and East Rock Neighborhood, where she finally settled. She went on to further her education at Stone Academy. Here she graduated the Executive Secretary program in 1983. She was then employed by the Law offices of Leitze and Paladino as a paralegal. Later she went to Spiegel, Zamecnik and Shah a structural engineering firm. She cherished all her co-workers like family. Zoltan and Fontaine family would like to thank Spiegel, Zamecnik and Shah for all the support provided in her battle against her illness.
Shortly after starting employment at Spiegel, Zamecnik and Shah she met her love and life partner Zoltan Foldes.Together they enjoyed sailing, Bluefishing, traveling, eating in nice restaurants or just to be outside in a nice sunny day. When we take hours and minutes for granted, Sylvie lived every second to the fullest.
Sylvie retired from Spiegel, Zamecnik and Shah to become "Wonder Woman" in a 16 year battle with many cancers. Also during this time, she also took care of her mother who was afflicted with illness. She was also very charitable. If someone paid for your groceries at checkout around Christmastime, it might have been Sylvie. Paying forward gave Sylvie such satisfaction. Even in her dire straits, she could still smile and wish you well. A true Angel on Earth passed on at home, May 26, 2018.
Sylvie, Zoltan and Family would like to thank her Doctors, Nurses, and the staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital New Haven. Your ceaseless care and hospitality was deeply appreciated by Sylvie. We were really disturbed by the many children stricken with cancer at Smilow. A childhood shouldn't have to bear the burden of cancer. Please forward donations to children's cancer charities at Smilow in her honor.
A Memorial calling will be held on Saturday June 16, 2018, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of New Haven, 205 Edwards St., New Haven, CT. 06511. All are invited to celebrate Sylvie's life and share friendship. A Prayer service to be said at 12 p.m., afterwards a brunch downstairs to share memories of Sylvie.
