Wasylyna Yukash Obituary
Wasylyna Yukash, age 96, passed away peacefully into eternal rest at her home on Saturday, March 24, 2018. She was the widow of Michael Yukash. Mrs. Yukash was born in Ukraine, lived in a refugee camp during World War II, immigrating to the United States. She was employed for over 25 years by the former Cove Manor Convalescent Home as a nurse's aid. Proud of her Ukrainian heritage, she enjoyed and treasured the times she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and of recent time, her great grandchildren. She was especially known for her Babkas, Holubts (stuffed cabbage) and most especially, her delicious Pyrohy. She was known to her grandchildren as "Baba" and passed on her love of Ukrainian culture, heritage and language through her many experiences of famine, war and loss of family that she endured in her youth. Her faith in God carried her throughout her life. She had a gift of making the impossible bloom in her garden. Her love of watching her garden burst with radiant color was a joy to see. She was a long time parishioner of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in New Haven. She is survived by five children, ten cherished grandchildren, and of recent, three great grandchildren.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and are invited to attend the funeral liturgy in St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 569 George St. Friday morning at 10:00. Panachyda in the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:00. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation, 2247 West Chicago Ave., Chicago, IL 60622 indicating the funds for St. Nicholas' Mercy Town Orphanage in Ukraine.
