BASSERMANN, VINCENT PETER Vincent Peter Bassermann, 96, of Hamden, died peacefully on October 31st while in Hospice care at the Mary Wade Home in New Haven. Vincent was born in New Haven on September 27, 1917, son of the late Peter Paul and Mary Daley Bassermann. He was a loving father to his surviving three children, Peter Bassermann and his wife Sharon of Branford, Susan Criscuolo and her husband Henry of East Haven and Gerald Bassermann and his fiancée Colleen Murray of El Granada, California. He was the beloved “Boompa” as grandfather to six grandchildren, Michael (Cathy), Patrick (Ileana) and Stephen (Jacqueline) Bassermann, Christopher and David Candido (Jenelle), and Jules Bassermann. He is also survived by his great-grandchild, Vincent Candido. Vincent “Buddy” was predeceased by his loving wife Jane of 64 years earlier this year. Also predeceased by six sisters, Rita Hemming, Florence “Shash” Stadalnik, Doris Reynolds, Regina Reynolds, Elizabeth Pierson and Margaret Delano. He is survived by his sister Ann Howard (William) of Orange. V. Peter attended New Haven College and was a Registered Architect in Connecticut. He was a member of the Connecticut Society of Architects and was associated with a number of firms in Hartford, Bridgeport and New Haven before joining an International Architectural firm in the 1960's. There he worked in New York City and Rome, Italy. He retired from Yale University in 1982 where he had been Manager of New Construction for ten years. “Pete” was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran who flew 75 combat missions in the China, Burma, India theater and was awarded numerous military medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross. Peter was a resident of Hamden since 1949, a communicant of St. Rita Church in Hamden and a member of its Men's Club. Buddy enjoyed his role as patriarch of the Bassermann family and hosting parties at his home in Hamden. He enjoyed golf, opera, vacationing with family and friends, and was a former member of the High Lane Club in North Haven. He experienced much of what life offered, embraced it, and was truly loved. His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Monday, November 4th at 10:30 am. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Rita Church, 1620 Whitney Avenue, Hamden at 11:00 am. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Sunday, November 3rd from 4 to 7 pm. Contributions in V.
