1925 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
DUFFY, WILLIAM CORE JR. William Core Duffy, Jr of Portland, Maine died September 7th at St. Joseph’s Manor in Portland. He was born in 1925 in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of William Core Duffy, M.D. and Marie Barron Duffy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maxine Webber Duffy; two sisters, Mrs. Philip Wootton, Jr. of North Haven, Connecticut and Juliet D. Smith of North Branford, Connecticut; and two half brothers, John and David Duffy of North Haven, Connecticut. He was much loved by his nieces and nephews. Mr. Duffy graduated from Hamden Hall School and entered Yale College in 1942. He left Yale to enlist in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. After his service, in 1945 he returned to the Yale College of Music where he completed Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He was a faculty member in piano at the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven for many years. His life-long study of early American silver made Mr. Duffy a resource for collectors and curators alike. In 1987, the Duffys bought and restored the 18th century Lady Pepperrell House in Kittery Point, Maine where they resided until their move to Portland more than a decade later. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 1 p.m at A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Avenue Portland, Maine.
