DERBACHER, KARL ROBERT JR. Karl Robert Derbacher, Jr., 90, of New Haven, CT and Venice, Florida passed away peacefully on January 24, 2015 at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded in love by his family. Born July 19, 1924 in New Haven, CT to the late Karl & Ruth Andersen Derbacher, Sr. He was the beloved husband of Josephine Leonzo Derbacher. During World War II, he was a Staff Sergeant of the 3rd Marine Air wing stationed at Cherry Point, NC and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He worked as a plant manager for over 30 years at Knudsen Dairy and later worked at Globe Knudsen until his retirement in 1990. He spent his retirement years camping with the Nutmeg Family Camping Club, traveling the 48 continental states, as well as Alaska, and enjoyed many winters in Florida with his wife, extended family and friends. He was an avid parishioner of the former St Boniface Church in New Haven and Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Venice, Florida. He was a true patriarch to his family. Along with his wife, he is survived by his sons, Karl (Jayne Crowley) Derbacher III of Branford, CT; Robert (Sandy) Derbacher of East Haven, CT; grandchildren, Kristina (David) Hulegaard of Eugene, Oregon, Amy Derbacher of East Haven, CT; Tracy (Antonio) Franco of New Haven, CT; Brett Johnson of Cape May, NJ; George (Liz) Geuther of New Haven, CT; great-grandchildren, Hayden & Riley Johnson of Cape May, NJ; Vivian Hulegaard of Eugene, Oregon; his brother, Joseph Derbacher of Hamden, CT, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Richard Derbacher and granddaughter, Laura Derbacher Johnson. His family would like to thank David Hunter and the staff of the Mary Wade Home, as well as the staff of the Cardiac Unit of Yale New Haven Hospital especially his nurse Chizuru for their compassion during this difficult time. His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80) East Haven SATURDAY morning at 9:30 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 10:00 A.M. Military Honors will take place immediately after the Mass. Interment will be private.
