Apicella, Anthony G.
Attorney Anthony G. Apicella, of Old Saybrook and formerly of North Branford, passed away on March 31, 2021. He was born in New Haven on September 24, 1931 to the late Antonio and Anna Cirillo Apicella. He graduated from West Haven High School, the University of Connecticut, and the University of Connecticut School of Law. He served in the United States Air Force as a Special Agent with the Office of Special Investigations and as a Captain in the United States Air Force Reserve. He was admitted to the Connecticut Bar, the United States District Court, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He was a member of the New Haven County Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. He was also a member of the North Branford Charter Commission, which gave the town its first charter and governance by a town council. He served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut and was in private practice in New Haven and Branford for 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Ellen Brady Apicella, his daughter Suzanne Marello and her husband Anthony, his son Douglas Apicella and his wife Nicole, and his grandchildren Courtney Marello, Ian Apicella and Maggie Apicella. He was predeceased by his daughter Alison Apicella. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Old Saybrook on April 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. He will be buried in Riverside Cemetery in Old Saybrook beside his beloved daughter Alison.
