Thomas E. Comerford, Jr., M.D., died June 11, 2008 in Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, Lewiston, NY, after a short illness. He was born on September 15, 1927 in Niagara Falls, NY. He was the son of Thomas E. Comerford, Sr. and Madeline (O'Haire) Comerford. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1945 and attended the University of Illinois when he was 17 years old. He continued at Niagara University and graduated with a Medical degree from the University of Buffalo in 1953. Dr. Comerford did residencies in pathology and family practice. He joined the United States Army Medical Corps in World War II and was stationed in Fort Dix, NJ for 18 months. He practiced at St. Luke's Hospital in Utica, NY before returning to Western New York and practicing Family Medicine until the late 1990's. He was a lung and tissue donor, a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, New York State Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Society and a World War II Veteran.In his retirement, Tom enjoyed attending the Shaw Festival and Niagara University Theatre with his wife, Ellen, ushering at Sunday Mass at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church and spending time with his grandchildren. Tom married the former Ellen Major Shapley on July 1, 1961; also surviving are his four children, Mary (Michael) Ponterio of Clarence, NY, Thomas E. (Laura) Comerford III of Binghamton, NY, John (Hope) Comerford of Amherst, NY and Matthew (Kelly) Comerford of St. Claire Shores, MI; his brother, James Joseph (Patricia Caffrey) Comerford of Lewiston and 14 grandchildren. Ellen&family..my heart,thoughts &prayers go out to all of you at this difficult time. He was a man of much wisdom. I was blessed to have such a wonderful Boss, MD & Friend in my life. He was missed by his patients & now by his family & friends. May God be with all of you.

The loss of our friend and DR. of many years ago is very sad we loved and missed him since we left Niagara Falls he was the best Dr. and friend.
