1930-2021 On Saturday, March 6, 2021, our mom who had lived through the Great Depression, the strains of the Second World War, the Cold War that took her husband overseas in the military, who raised four children in the great Baby Boom and finally found herself closed in by a Pandemic - she decided it was time to go from this world to the next. Married to her late husband Larry Chapman for 68 years. Mother to Ron, Donna, Diane Wiersma (Dennis) and Bob who left this earth before her. Grandmother to Trevor (Kim), Karen (Amanda), Rachel, and Tracey (Patrick) Wiersma and Riley Chapman. Great-Grandmother to Eric, Eloise and Leo Wiersma. Survived by her brother Ross Hamm (Audrey) and sister-in-law Jean Hamm. Shirley read the newspaper from cover to cover everyday. Loved her Blue Jays Baseball on the radio late into the night. As matriarch of her clan and with the skilled use of the telephone she kept in touch with extended family across Canada. And her neighbours - many of them were like family to her and we are grateful for the care and the help they gave which assisted her to stay in the house she loved since 1969. She will definitely be missed. Cremation has taken place with private interment at Queen's Lawn Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held in the future. If desired, memorial contributions to McNally House Hospice would be sincerely appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755). www.smithsfh.com
