MATAMORAS, Pa. - Ellsworth Smith Jr., 75, of Matamoras, Pa., died suddenly on Jan. 11. He was a retired superintendent for the Matamoras Water Department, in Matamoras, Pa., sat on the board of directors for the Westfall Municipal Authority, in Westfall Township., Pa., was a member of the American Legion Post 486, in Matamoras, Pa. and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Ellsworth was an avid sportsman, hunter, fisherman and lover of all things nature. He was a joker and loved to laugh. Over all else, he loved his family. According to his wishes, his corneas were donated to save the sight of someone in our local area.
The son of the late Ellsworth and Madeline (McDavitt) Smith Sr., Ellsworth was born on Sept. 5, 1942. He was born and raised in Newton, but relocated to Pike County 39 years ago.
Ellsworth is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beverly (Pickett) Smith; a son, Thad J. Smith and wife, Tricia; three grandsons, Trent, Teague and Bradley Smith, of Northampton, Pa.; granddaughters, Nichole Smith, of Bethlehem, Pa., and Ashley Terwilliger and husband Robert, of Shohola, Pa.; and two great grandchildren, Tru and Aya Terwilliger. He was preceded in death by his son, Ty M. Smith, and brother, Arnold Smith.
There will be a Celebration of Life from 5-8 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 19, at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 W. Harford St., Milford, Pa. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m., on Jan. 19, at the funeral home.
