Patricia Corbutt Obituary
VERNON - Patricia Corbutt, a long-time resident of the Highland Lakes section of Vernon, died peacefully at home, on Jan. 3. Born in 1931, in Paris, France, she spent her first six years living in Nice, at the Chateau d'Azur. She moved to the United States in 1937, residing for many years in Jersey City.
Patricia attended St. Aloysius Academy in Jersey City. She graduated as the salutatorian from Notre Dame College in Staten Island and then continued her education at Jersey City State College. She taught in the Jersey City Public School System before moving to Sussex County in 1971. Patricia then taught at Immaculate Conception Grammar School in Franklin, as well as substituting in Vernon Township schools, before changing careers in the early 1980s. She worked for a number of years at GAF before retiring as assistant corporate secretary from Stone & Webster Engineering, New York City, in 1996. Upon retirement, Patricia and her husband, Paul, enjoyed cruising and spending time with family, especially their seven grandchildren, Richard, Connor, Theresa, Liam, Maggie, Owen and Kieran. A devout Catholic, Patricia could be found every Sunday at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church in Vernon, wheelchair and all. She had a wonderful smile that could light up a room and was a friend and surrogate mom to many.
Patricia is survived by her husband of 62 years, Paul J. Corbutt; daughter, Catherine Brennan and her husband, William, of Middletown, N.Y.; daughter, Lillian Ryder and her husband, Richard, of Ridgefield; daughter, Frances Rumsey, of Vernon; son, Paul G. Corbutt and his wife, Veronica, of Pompton Plains; her seven grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
