OCEAN VIEW, Del. -- Steven A. Rendle, 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, in Christiana Care Hospital following a brief illness.

Steve was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on Jan. 19, 1945, and raised in Clarks Summit, Pa. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Westminster College and a master's degree in student personnel services from Seton Hall University.

From 1967 through 2003, Steve served as a history teacher, a guidance counselor, the director of student personnel services and head golf coach at Jefferson Township Public Schools in Milton. During his tenure in the Jefferson Township School district, Steve met Ruth, his beloved wife of 47 years.

In 2003, Steve retired to Ocean View, Del., where he resided at The Village at Bear Trap Dunes. He was an avid, accomplished golfer and organized a large Monday golf group at Bear Trap. He also served on the Delaware State Golf Association course rating team.

Besides golf, Steve cherished time with his family, hiking local nature trails, boating, playing guitar, traveling, his dine-around group and trivia nights with friends.

Steve was predeceased by his adoptive parents, John T. Rendle and Gladys Wittig Rendle; his birth parents, Lillian Rendle Sunter and Arthur Sunter; his brother, Robert Morlang Sr.; nephew, Robert Morlang Jr.; and sister-in-law, Lois Bergman. He is survived and will always be loved by his wife, Ruth; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeff Cooper; son, Steven Matthew; grandchildren, Ben and Sarah Cooper; sister-in-law, Delores Morlang; niece, Beverly Morlang; brother-in-law, Fred Bergman; and nephews, Chris and Russ Bergman.

Services will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 15, at Melson's Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, Del., where friends may call after 11 a.m.
