Wallace R. "Hank" Smith Obituary
NEWTON - Wallace "Hank" R. Smith, 84, of Newton, died on Jan. 2, 2018, at Newton Medical Center.
Born in Newton, Hank was a lifelong resident of Newton. He was a 1951 graduate of Newton High School.
A United States Air Force veteran, Hank proudly served during the Korean Conflict. He was a foreman at JCP&L in Hampton Township for more than 30 years before his retirement. Most recently, Hank was a school crossing guard. He was a member of the Newton Recreation League. He was a past president of the Newton Junior Athletic League, where he was a baseball umpire. A member of the Fredon Gun Club, Hank loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapshooting, ice
fishing, etc.
The son of the late Frank K. Smith Sr., and Gladys (Savacool) Smith, Hank was also predeceased by his brother, Frank K. Smith Jr., and his sister, Shirley Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 58 years, his three children, Sherri Smith, of Alameda, Calif., Joni Smith, of Newton, and Vicki Smith and fiancé, Anthony Kays, of Newton; his grandchildren, Anthony Smith and Derek Smith; and his brother, Ronald H. Smith and wife, Beverly, of Newton.
Visitation will be held 2-5 p.m., on Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery.
