Lucille Casassa Obituary

Mrs. Lucille Eva Casassa December 12, 1915 - June 11, 2022 Lucille Casassa lived a full life and passed away peacefully at age 106 in Richland, Washington, with her daughter and son in law by her side.

Lucille was born on December 12, 1915, to Frank and Caroline Ziemba (Takach) in Ingomar, Montana. She was the third of seven children. The young family traveled to Washington State where Frank worked in Ronald, Washington. He was killed in the mines leaving Caroline to raise her large family.

Lucille graduated from Cle Elum High School in 1934. She met a young businessman, John Casassa shortly afterward at a dance in Roslyn, Washington. It was love at first sight!! They married in Cle Elum, Washington, on September 5, 1939. Lucille worked as a bookkeeper in the family business, Casassa Brothers Cable in Cle Elum. She was active playing golf and bowling. Lucille also enjoyed their yearly trips to Las Vegas where they stayed at the Hacienda (now Mandalay Bay) and took in all the headlining shows. Her favorite was Frank Sinatra as they shared the exact same birthdate! (She did think Dean Martin was a better singer though).

One of Lucille's greatest pleasures was baking for her grandchildren, but she was best known for her homemade breadsticks which she gave out to friends, family, her doctors, and even the rock band Heart! Lucille and John spent many years at their winter home in Sun City West, Arizona, where they enjoyed their days poolside and on the golf course. Her family though was the closest to her heart and she doted on her grandchildren, memories that they hold dear.

Lucille was a long time member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cle Elum.

After John's death in 1996, she moved to Richland to be closer to her daughter. The two dined out every Friday night until Lucille's health declined.

She will be missed by surviving family, son Don (Linda) Las Vegas and daughter Tina Lauman (Mike) of Pasco. She is also survived by four grandchildren Mike Casassa (Charu) of Seattle, Lee Colclasure (Erin) of Richland, Alyssa Guidero (Lino) of Seattle, Landon Casassa of Seattle, and brother Tom Ziemba of Kennewick. Also surviving are six great grandchildren Sahan Casassa, Miles Colclasure, Nico Casassa, Dominic Colclasure, Isla Guidero, Indy Guidero and many nieces and nephews.

Lucille be greeted in Heaven by her parents, husband John of 57 years, granddaughter Lisa Casassa, brothers Frank, William, and Andrew Ziemba, and sisters Florence Ross and Mary Chopp.

There will be a celebration of life on July 27, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Cle Elum.

The family would like to especially thank Chaplaincy Hospice nurse Jen who looked after her with such loving care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to a charity close to your heart.

Johnston & Williams Funeral Home in Cle Elum will be in charge of arrangements.
