Bruce Harris Obituary

Bruce Harris April 20, 1960 - August 8, 2023 Bruce Harris, beloved husband, father, and Papa, passed away peacefully in his home on August 8, 2023. Bruce's journey was one marked by love and service for others.

Born in Seattle, Washington, to Ray Dale Harris and Caroline Jean Harris (Fletcher), April 20, 1960. He was the second born, alongside his siblings Chrissy, Paula, Jeff, and Scott.

From his early years, Bruce had a passionate heart, an unrelenting work ethic, and a spirit that welcomed all with warmth. In 1979, he graduated from Sammamish High School. Following high school, he attended culinary school and earned an Associate of Arts Degree at Bellevue Community College. In 1985, while attending CWU and cooking at the Copper Kettle restaurant in Ellensburg, he not only honed in on his culinary and leadership skills, but also met the love of his life, Joann (Riggs). Their love story blossomed over shared dreams and aspirations, and they sealed their bond in marriage on October 9, 1987.

Guided by a love for the culinary arts and a commitment to service, Bruce forged a remarkable career in the food industry. For six years he successfully ran the kitchen at the beloved Bar 14 restaurant, leaving an indelible mark on the establishment, staff, and patrons. Bruce then transitioned to become an accomplished food salesman for Food Services of America. His dedication, expertise, warmth, and outgoing personality served him well in his relationships with business owners and clients for twelve fruitful years.

In pursuit of new horizons, Bruce and his beloved wife Joann embarked on a daring adventure, acquiring the Ellensburg Pasta Company in 2006. Their combined focus on family values, excellence in cuisine, and unparalleled service propelled the establishment to new heights over the course of 17 flourishing years. One of Bruce's last wishes was to be able to sign for the sale of Ellensburg Pasta Company, which occurred just a few days, prior to his passing. For both Bruce and Joann, fostering harmony and acceptance in the workplace was a priority. Employees were regarded as family and his care and love for everyone was evident.

As a father and husband, Bruce's devotion to his family was paramount. He found immense joy coaching his children's youth baseball and basketball teams, nurturing not only their athletic abilities, but their character as well. A devoted Christian, Bruce served as a Deacon and Elder at the Ellensburg Presbyterian Church, mentored young men, served in numerous mission trips and men's ministries. He embodied his faith in all aspects of his life.

His family legacy includes his devoted and loving wife, Joann; children, Angela (Joshua) Armstrong, Tyler (Gina) Harris, and Garrett (Elizabeth) Harris. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren; Aleah Voglis, Noelle, Simon, and June Armstrong, Skylar, Hadley, and Easton Harris, Elijah, Henry, and Levi Bruce (arriving this fall) Harris. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the values he imparted, and the love he shared.

A Celebration of Life will take place, Thursday, August 17,1:00pm, Mercer Creek Church. Family and friends are invited to join in commemorating his rich and meaningful life.

Suggested memorials in his honor: The Gretchen Weller Foundation, PO Box 1762, Ellensburg, supporting families of Kittitas County dealing with cancer or Care Net Pregnancy Center of Kittitas County, reflecting Bruce's passion for Christ and the sanctity of life.

Joann and family
Bruce sounds like such an inspiring man and I´m sorry for your loss. I feel like it´s my loss to have not known him. What wonderful eulogy made me smile and think that the family and friends must feel the same way.

On the morning of August 8th, I was wished a happy birthday. In that same call. I had been informed that Bruce had passed away. Rather than feeling like a day to celebrate my occasion, I felt a very strong sense of dedication, to a truly wonderful friendship of many years, of friendship. Celebration of life is the best birthday present God had for me. Always remembered...today, tomorrow, and forever. Thank you for your friendship, & may God keep close watch over your loving family, & everyone that was a part of your life. A true friend, Vincent Saverio Noto, Jr., Ellensburg, WA.

Just simply a standup guy with a wonderful sense of humor, easy to talk to, a great smile, and a genuine laugh. All characteristics that served him well professionally and personally. I will miss the great conversations I had with him over the years.
