Independence - James Matthew Murphy, of Independence, Kentucky, passed unexpectedly on Feb 4, 2018 at the age of 35. Matthew was born in Covington on October 12, 1982 to Brenda Schmid and James T. Murphy. He graduated high school in Taylor Mill at Community Christian Academy. He went on to receive his associates in Criminal Justice in Florence at Beckfield College. He worked as a Security Guard for Murray Security. Matthew was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed taking them fishing and camping. He was a devoted Christian; he attended church at Erlanger Church of the Nazarene. He loved to volunteer for children and church. He played Santa every year at church, school and other local events. He had a great imagination, which often led to fun projects, problem solving and ways to get people together. His greatest impact that he will leave behind is his giving heart. The quote he lived by was "Love thy neighbor as you would love thyself". Matthew will be dearly missed by many, because of his selflessness, joy and laughter. He has impacted so many people and his legacy to be kind to one another will carry on forever. Matthew is predeceased by his Grandparents, Leo and Helen Marie Schmid and Ralph and Ruby Murphy. Matthew is survived by his parents, mother Brenda Schmid, father, James Murphy, and stepfather, James Lewis Dunn, Sr.; his siblings, Jody (Harold) Thompson, Dustin (Brenda) Murphy, Leanna Murphy , Louie (Christina) Dunn, Travis (Jenna)Dunn; nieces, Mallory Murphy, Jayda Murphy, Katelynn Murphy, Bethany Thompson, and Mylah Dunn; and nephews, Oscar Banados and Graysen Dunn. Visitation 9:30 AM until Funeral service at 11:30 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2018 - all at SWINDLER & CURRIN FUNERAL HOME - LATONIA. Interment at Floral Hills.
