Sr. Mary Edith Austing, C.D.P.

Melbourne - Sr. Mary Edith Austing, CDP died peacefully at Holy Family Home on February 4, 2018. She was a professed member of the Congregation of Divine Providence for 71 years. Born in Dayton, Kentucky in 1926 to Bernard Joseph and Emma Austing, she made her first profession of vows in 1947 and professed her final vows in 1952. Sr. Mary Edith began her ministry as an elementary teacher in 1947 and taught in various schools until 1980, when she assumed responsibility as Director of Religions Education at Assumption Parish, Cincinnati until 1986. She moved to New York and served at Jeanne d'Arc Residence for Women and in several nearby parishes until 2013. Then she moved to Holy Family Home, Melbourne and began assisting Sisters with her sewing skills until a recent sudden fall. She will be missed by her religious community, the Sisters of Divine Providence, especially by her sister Sr. Margaret Mary Austing and her niece Ellen Coghill. Her brother, Ray Austing and her nephew Gerry McClanahan preceded her in death. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Chapel, Melbourne on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 4:00. Wake Service will be at 3:00. Burial in Convent Cemetery immediately after Mass. Memorials to the Congregation of Divine Providence, 5300 Saint Anne Drive, Melbourne, KY 41059. Dobbling, Muehlenkamp & Erschell Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
