Judge Raymond Lape Obituary


Judge Raymond E. Lape, 87, of Fort Wright, KY passed away on July 1, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Center, Edgewood, KY. He was a Circuit Court Judge for Commonwealth of Kentucky. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Chase College of Law in 1968. He enlisted in 1943 in the U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Judge Lape served as a Kenton County Circuit Judge, First Division from 1979 until his retirement in 1995. In retirement he served as a Senior Retired Judge and was an active private mediator. Prior to serving on the bench he was in private practice at the law firm of Davies, Lape & Quill and an assistant Kenton County attorney. In 1989 he was named Trial Judge of the Year by the Kentucky Academy of Trial Lawyers. He received the Chase College of Law Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement award in 2006; in 2010 he received the NKBA Distinguished Lawyer Award and in 2014 he was the first recipient of the Northern Kentucky Democratic Leagues Public Service Award. In addition to his professional achievement, Judge Lape has also acted as President of the N.KY Legal Aid Society, President of the Chase College of Law Alumni Association, President of the Benefactors Club, President of the Campbell County Bar Association and the current treasurer of the Chase Law Foundation. He is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, Ohio Bar Association, N.KY Bar Association, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Board of Governors and Chase College of Law Association. He was preceded in death by wife Mary Lou Lape and his grandson Kenny Ray Miller. Judge Lape is survived by his daughters Kathleen (Michael Gerwe ) Lape of Erlanger, KY and Julie Ann (Ken) Lape-Abner of Fort Thomas, KY; sons Jeffrey S. Lape of Louisville, KY and James C. (Jackie Cassidy) Lape of Newport, KY; grandchildren Ian & Ryan Lape-Gerwe, Amanda and Andrew Rayburn, Elizabeth Lape-Cabinillas, Stephanie and Raymond Lape; and 8 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, July 9, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Dobbling Funeral Home, 106 S. Ft. Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, KY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 AM Friday, July 10, at the St. Agnes Church, Ft. Wright, KY. Entombment will take place in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, KY.
