Melbourne - Sr. Gertrude Ann Knipper, CDP died peacefully at Holy Family Home on January 10, 2019. She was a professed member of the Congregation of Divine Providence for 64 years. Born in Newport, Kentucky in 1930 to William Leo and Gertrude Sauter Knipper, she made her first profession of vows in 1954 and professed her final vows in 1959. Sr. Gertrude Ann began her ministry of teaching in 1954 at Assumption School, Mt. Healthy, Ohio. For the next twenty one years she taught or was principal in elementary schools in Kentucky, and Maryland. From 1975 to 1979 she served as Education Consultant for the Diocese of Covington and after that returned to the classroom and served as principal in Ohio and Kentucky elementary schools until 1989. She began serving as a pastoral minister at Our Lady of Visitation Parish in Mack, Ohio and in 2003 until 2010 at St. Mary Parish, Alexandria, Kentucky. She then retired to Holy Family Home where her prayer life and community service continued. A woman of strong faith and trust, her prayerful example was shared with others despite numerous health issues. As a mentor and a prayer companion for Associates and as a cheerful community member, she continued to minister to others until her death. She will be missed by her religious community, the Sisters of Divine Providence, her brother, Leo and his wife, Virginia, her sister-in-law Margie Knipper and nieces and nephews. Her oldest brother, Donald Knipper preceded her in death. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Chapel, Holy Family Home, Melbourne on Tuesday, January 15 at 4:00. Visitation will begin at 2:30 and a Wake Service at 3:00 with burial in convent cemetery following Mass. Memorials to the Congregation of Divine Providence, 5300 Saint Anne Drive, Melbourne, KY 41059. Dobbling, Muehlenkamp & Erschell is assisting with arrangements.
