CONNOR

Mary Meinken Connor, 87, of Newport, KY passed away with her family beside her on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ft. Thomas, KY. She was born on October 1, 1926 in Latonia, KY to the late John and Hilda Meinken. She proudly earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Thomas More College at the age of 63 and served as a secretary at St. Paul's School in Florence, KY for 18 years. She was a member of Mother of God Choral Club in Covington, KY for more than 60 years and an active member of Holy Spirit Parish in Newport, KY. She lovingly hand restored religious statues for Our Lady of the Holy Spirit in Norwood, OH. Mary was a devoted wife of 46 years to the late Coach Jim Connor of Thomas More College; a loving mother to seven children; Dr. James (Judy), John, Dr. Edward (Sarabeth), Gery (Heidi), Nancy (Tony) Kelly, Marty and Terry (Michelle); and a beloved grandmother to twelve grandchildren; Jennifer, Jonathan, Robert, Daniel, Jeramie, Janna, Katie, Emilia, Jalee, Braden, Nathan and Stephen. She was blessed with three great-grandchildren; Cornelia, Teagan and Grant. She was preceded in death by her sisters Ruth, Thelma, Esther, Annalee, Vera and brother Bud and survived by sisters Ursula and Juanita. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Dobbling, Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Homes. Visitation is Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 9 am - 11 am and Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon, both to be held at Holy Spirit Parish, 825 Washington Avenue in Newport, KY. Burial service will take place at Mother of God Cemetery in Covington, KY immediately following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Coach Jim and Mary Connor Scholarship Fund at Thomas More College, 333 Thomas More Parkway, Crestview Hills, KY. 41017, Attention: Cathy Silvers.
