I only just found out yesterday about the loss of this wonderful woman. I met her years ago at a public ritual when I first stepped onto this path. Over the years I studied and moved out of state. I turned to her for advice when seeking a new teacher . I followed it and just a few years ago I attained my fourth degree,,,,,I owe my first tentative steps to this wonderful person. I am sorry to hear that we have lost her and my heart goes out to all who felt the pain of loosing this dear lady. Velvet you and your work will live on in the lives of those you touched.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Velvet was one of my dearest friends in elementary and high school and greatly influenced my own thought and development as a caring woman and writer. I will cherish her memory and the last time we saw each other and spoke last year. Much love.

My deepest condolences to Velvet's family . Even as children I knew Velvet would go on to do great things in life, and she did. Although life took us on different paths thru the years I did see her occasionally. Taken from this world much too soon but her spirit will continue to live on.

I remember the first time I reached out to you when I started my journey, and though I was in prison at the time, you showed me the many wonderful ways to be free. Together we opened Circles where no one wanted them, but we fought the fights and won. You blessed me in so many ways, and I still have the proud memories of when you initiated me. You touched so many with your heart and wit, and blessed all with your compassion and love. Blessed Be

I love calling her a Warrior Witch, because it fits what I knew of her so perfectly. I never knew her to back down from any fight, and she was always fighting for her community, for her coven, for minorities, for the poor and disenfranchised, etc. She was an inspiration, and her loss will be felt by me and many others, even if they only connected with her briefly.

Once in a lifetime, if we're lucky, someone comes into your life and changes you from your core, for the better, and makes you a stronger and happier woman/man. That person is you, Velvet. You to me were Goddess incarnate and you taught me to see Goddess within myself. I love you dearly and I will always, always honor your memory. I miss you so much already, especially your wit and wisdom. You were a force to be reckoned with.
Until we meet again,
Your sister witch

Velvet came to Kansas City twice to spend time with us. She spoke at Pagan Pride 2004 and when I went to pay her for the travel cost she told me to give the moeny to the Charity we were working for. That year I think it was a domestic intervention center.
Later she brought Bucklands Museum to Heartland to put it on display.
We talked from time to time about the NOLA community and her working with other groups of other faiths. She told me we were all children of the Gods and she just wanted to help.
Rest well Velvet. I love you and we will see each other again someday.

Sing and dance in the Summerlands, hon. Rest is not for you. Song and revelry suit you best. Your family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers. May we be even half as strong as you were on your path. Gael Bannaght, Velvet.

My name is Lynda Harvey and I remember Velvet and her openess and love of life. She struck me as a free spirit who loved her children. We lived in the same small apartment complex and she used to get crayfish and we would open a giant plastic bag in the back throw those crayfish on them and just enjoy the evening and talk. She enjoyed reading and poetry and was just an amazing open, lovely person.Life happened and we didn't keep in touch but I have a warm place in my heart.for her. My prayers go out to her children and family. You will be missed but the memories are with us, you will never be forgotten...
