Charles L., on January 1, 2014, a longtime resident of Cliffside Pk., NJ, age 85. Mr. Calvano was born in Hoboken, NJ in 1928 and was a longtime resident of Cliffside Park where he was heavily involved as President of the Cliffside Park Men's Club for 28 years, the Cliffside Park Democratic Organization, and many different athletic organizations. In 1969 he and several men from the Cliffside Park Men's Club started the Annual Beefsteak Dinner honoring Cliffside Park High School Athletes. He was a retired NJ State Police Inspector for the NJ Alcohol Beverage Control, NJ State Honor Legion Member, PBA Local 104 State Delegate, Cliffside Park Housing Inspector, former President of Cliffside Park Board of Health, and served in Japan in the United States Army during WWII.
Mr. Calvano was predeceased by his loving wife Marie Calvano in 2008. He was also predeceased by his 2 brothers, Joseph and David and 6 sisters, Lucy DeFalco, Nancy DeBenedictis, Madeline Beatrice, Rose Calvano, Caroline DeErico, and Catherine Molta.
He is survived by his 2 sons, Joseph and his wife Barbara of Kendall Park, NJ, and Charles and his wife Judith of Sedona, AZ. He is also survived by his sister Jean Byrnes and his 4 grandchildren, Austin, Andrew, Anthony, and Nicholas.
Funeral from the A.K. Macagna Funeral Home 495 Anderson Ave., Cliffside Park, NJ, on Saturday January 4, 2014 at 10:15 am thence to Our Lady of Grace RC Church, Fairview, NJ, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 am. Entombment to follow at Fairview Mausoleum, Fairview, NJ. Visiting hours Friday, January 3, 2014 from 1-4 and 7-9 pm.
Donations in Charles' name may be made to the Cliffside Park High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
