POWER
John M., the founder and senior partner of Power Law Firm LLP and a Jets season ticketholder for more than 40 years, died suddenly at his Hackensack home on April 2, 2014. He was 76. Born in Orleans, Vermont, he was the son of the late Dorothy Currier Power and Richard B. Power, a furniture maker. The first member of his family to attend college, he graduated from NYU's Stern School of Business, became a CPA, earned a J.D. from St. John's University School of Law and a Master of Laws degree in Taxation from the Graduate Division of NYU School of Law. He loved his work and helping people. Beloved husband of Mary Ann, he was the loving father of Stephen (Christine) and Douglas (Abigail), and the proud grandfather of Joshua, Alice Hope and Owen. John was the second of eight children. He is predeceased by brothers David and Thomas, and sisters Joanna and Kathleen. He is survived by brothers Lawrence (Edna) of Sebring, FL and Patrick (Helene) of Florham Park, NJ and a sister, Carol Marks (Elliott) of Raleigh, NC. His many nieces and nephews agree: He was a great man. John was an accomplished storyteller, loved a good debate, and lived every day to the fullest. One of Douglas and Stephen's childhood friends summed it up best: "In all these years, I don't remember a single time when I didn't have a great time with John." John got his Super Bowl win in 1969. His descendents remain hopeful. The funeral will begin on Monday at 9:45 AM from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, 34 Maple Avenue, Hackensack at 11 AM with private cremation services. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-6 PM for visitation. In lieu of Flowers please make donations in John's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. John........Thinking about you, my friend! I can't believe it has been 7 years since you left this earth. John, you wouldn't believe how much this world has changed. Some changes are for the better........and some.........not so much! I wonder what your thoughts would be.........and what advice you would give. Remembering you fondly........and missing your keen sense of humor!
