Joseph Smith

WEST MILFORD — Services were held for Joseph F. Smith, 80, of Clifton, who died on Sunday, February 16, 2014. He was the brother of Regina Nowinski of this township.

Born in Jersey City, Mr. Smith lived there before moving to Clifton 18 years ago. He was a wireman for NJ Bell Telephone, Jersey City, for 35 years before retiring in 1991. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of American Legion Post 227, Totowa. He was a former scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 474, Jersey City. And, he was a parishioner of St. Andrew R.C. Church, Clifton.

Services were Friday at the Allwood Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by Mass at St. Andrew R.C. Church. Interment was at Cresthaven Memorial Park, Clifton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Support the Enlisted Project (STEP), P.O. Box 26747, San Diego, CA 92196; or to the Humane Society of the United States.

Mr. Smith is survived by his son, David of Hasbrouck Heights; his daughters, Michell of North Arlington, and Janice of Phoenix, Ariz.; his sister, Regina Nowinski of West Milford; and three granddaughters.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Susan Leahy; and his brothers, James and Vincent.
